Hello there 👋 ! Here’s a little about me.

Who is this man of international mystery, Jack Kurtz 🕵️‍♂️😅?

Hello, I'm Jack Kurtz, a 23-year-old native of Irvine, California. I have a deep love for learning, connecting with people, and teaching new ideas related to markets, economic systems, and life. I hold a degree in Economics from the University of Michigan, where I had the opportunity to start my exploration into the world of economics.

A word to the wise: always ask what the market price is for specials. This was taken post-absurdly overpriced crayfish in Melbourne 😂

After graduating, I returned to the large European bank I interned during my senior year. However, I couldn't suppress my passion for learning, teaching, and applying new ideas in economics, markets, and human decision-making. This realization prompted a significant decision; I left my audit job and set my sights on graduate school. This fall, I will be beginning my studies as an economics graduate student at the University of Cambridge.

As a kid, my passions revolved around video games (you'll find more about my favorites in the My Favorites section), cars (which coincidentally ended when I started investing in Tesla), and the British "car" show Top Gear.

There was always a slight twist to my interests, though. I became completely immersed in each topic, devouring knowledge about specific games, cars, and even the local housing market (yes, it may seem absurd for a 14-year-old, but hey, it was my thing back then! 🤣).

After exploring a variety of interests, I discovered my true passion for markets and economics at age 13 when I was introduced to investing by Corey, my parents' Financial Advisor. Corey's passion for learning, incredible patience, and willingness to teach significantly shaped my desire to pursue a career in economics and markets.

Studying economics was the highlight of my time at the University of Michigan. I had the freedom to delve into infinite market rabbit holes, such as engaging in discussions with my graduate student instructor, Clay, after every class about topics like the relative advantages of the U.S. banking system compared to Europe’s banking system. These experiences allowed me to continuously connect disparate topics to the core economics curriculum, reinforcing my understanding and expanding my interest in the subject.

The desire to explore the random ideas stored in my iPhone Notes app and share them with others led me to create Randonomics—a blog focused on answering fun, engaging, and childlike questions about the why behind things loosely connected to economics, markets, and human decision-making. With my love for connecting seemingly unrelated ideas, I aim to bring a fresh perspective to economics and markets by exploring the why behind things, connecting concepts, and unraveling the intricacies that shape our economic systems.

Through Randonomics, my ultimate goal is to help guide you through the world of economics and markets by showcasing how economics and incentive structures play out in our daily lives. I'll provide a mix of thought-provoking articles, engaging case studies, and practical insights that will empower you to navigate the complexities of the economic landscape with confidence and curiosity. In the coming months, I'll be diving deeper into topics in behavioral economics, sustainable investing, and emerging market trends. Stay tuned for exciting interviews with industry experts and interactive discussions with the Randonomics community.

Welcome to Randonomics 🥳!
